The year was 1922. America was the land of hope for millions. The economy was booming and the American Dream was becoming a reality for young Alex Friedman. Alex ventured to go out on his own, and started his own plumbing supply company. By 1934, with the country slipping deeper into the Great Depression, he decided to move forward and incorporated the company as A.F. Supply. Times were hard, but with undaunted spirit and hard work, the business persevered and flourished.

In 1946, Alex’s son, Sol, returned from the Army and re-joined the company. Father Alex and sons Sol and Joe worked hard to build the company into the dynamic and sound company that it is today. The company became a recognizable source for quality plumbing and heating supplies. They built AF Supply with dedication, hard work and solid values. Instead of using slick marketing slogans, the Friedman Boys added value for their customers with personal service, knowledgeable consultation and integrity. They may not have been the biggest, but they were the best.

The business kept expanding in those post war years. The company created a reputation not just for doing the basics, but also for extending further into specialty areas such as industrial, engineered products and extensive heating systems. They never gave up their passion for their business and this was passed on to their sons as well. Sol’s sons, Bennett, Howard and Warren, and Joe’s son, Jack, developed the business further into new areas.

By the late 1970’s the luxury bath market was beginning to develop. The company moved into this market, and by the early 80’s became a significant player in the upscale, luxury bath and hardware market. AF had evolved as a leader, not only in the traditional trade-related plumbing and heating products, but also in wholesale distribution. The Friedman "kids" continued to expand their physical distribution facilities and to organize the company. In 1987, the company opened its premier, upscale showroom in Manhattan specifically directed to the architectural and interior design trade. During the 90’s the company opened several new branch operations and pushed the business further still.

Today the AF Supply Group has emerged as one of the leading, privately owned plumbing and heating supply houses in the New York Metropolitan area. They are primary suppliers to many of the plumbing & heating wholesalers, and kitchen & bathroom dealers. They are also the leading distributor of upscale bath fixtures, faucets and hardware for key architects and interior designers. Their portfolio of products include many exclusive and fine bath fixtures and faucets from the US and Europe.
